13 Virtues by Benjamin Franklin

Here’s a list of the 13 virtues which Franklin committed himself to: https://daringtolivefully.com/ben-franklin-thirteen-virtues 1. “ TEMPERANCE . Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.” The first virtue selected by Franklin was not to overindulge in food or drink. Franklin writes that he selected temperance first because “it tends to procure that coolness and clearness of head which is so necessary where constant vigilance was to be kept up”. 2. “ SILENCE . Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.” By adopting this virtue Franklin wished, first, to gain knowledge, which he noted one acquires by using the ears instead of the tongue. Second, he wanted to “break a habit I was getting into (of) prattling, punning, and joking, which only made me acceptable to trifling company”. 3. “ ORDER . Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.” By achieving order Franklin expected to be able to have...

Uses of Myers Briggs Model in Psychology

Relationships Type differences in relationships can be a source of growth and/or conflict. However, there are no best or more successful combinations of types in relationships. Two persons who share  all four preferences  are as likely to get along easily as are a couple who share  only one or two preferences . Understanding and applying type theory to relationships can enhance communication, provide people with a better understanding of how they deal with conflict, and provide tools for a variety of situations including successfully making decisions and engaging in activities together. Careers Research has clearly shown that people are attracted to careers that allow them to make use of their natural type preferences. Though all four letters of your type can affect the kind of career that interests you, the two middle letters (ST, SF, NF, or NT) of your type have a particular importance for your career choice. Education Type can tell us many things about the ...

A Key to Getting ahead in Life

A Brilliant article by my good friend Donald Latumahina  in Indonesia . Here is the original link .Hope you enjoy  http://www.lifeoptimizer.org/2016/06/30/a-key-to-getting-ahead-in-life/ Do you want to get ahead in life? If so, then there is  one key you should have:  a knowledge advantage . I learned about this from Mark Cuban through his book How to Win at the Sport of Business . Mark Cuban is the billionaire owner of the Dallas Mavericks and one of the ‘sharks’ on the hit TV series  Shark Tank . In the book, he wrote about how he started his business. One thing he emphasized is the importance of having a knowledge advantage. Before starting his business, Cuban had a job selling computer software. There was a problem though: he didn’t know  anything  about computer software (it was in the early ‘80s). So what did he do? He spent hours  a day reading software manuals. As it turned out, not many people read those manuals, so he...

Getting a feel of the Higher Self

One of the most challenging experiences in life , this possibly can be achieved through a three pronged strategy :  1.Reading of the scriptures and listening to the Guru to gain Knowledge ,maybe what is Shravana 2.Reflecting on the same and making an attempt to see God in everything , also known as Manana 3.The last stage is meditating on the Higher Self which requires a lot of preparation and practise .This is known as Dhyana.  However one needs to do one's duties well and rise above petty material desires to become a Karmayogi and then a Gyanyogi finally .  There is no shortcut .  All thanks to our Guru Swami Parthsarathi and our mentor Shri(Dr)Subhashis Chakraborty
