Mere curiosity to know about the history and lifestyle of the jutewallahs lead me to the writings of E.Fraser from Glasgow. It was interesting to learn that Dundee in Scotland was the home where the jute from Eastern India would find a place. Later Dundee faced competition from an upcoming city called Calcutta which attracted the Scottish investments and many relocated here for the sake of business .The first jute mill was set up in Rishra and many followed across both banks of the River Hooghly .
