Media penetration in India

http://blogs.economictimes.indiatimes.com/et-commentary/media-penetration-a-sneak-into-households/ Partho Das Gupta The fast changing world of technology reflects in the changing patterns of media consumption. Yet, in a country of 1.25 billion, it is not surprising that change is slow and takes place at a varying pace with metros ‘enveloping’ technology faster. So, what is India watching, reading and listening to? And what is the best way to reach one’s audience, be it an advertiser launching a new product, or some new entertainment content, or an opinion piece like this one? Indians are consuming information and entertainment across media. But which medium is the one with the widest reach today? Television still has the deepest penetration throughout India. Of the total TV universe of 674.5 million people (over 50% of India’s population), television reaches approximately 475 million people every day across the country. Compared to traditional media like print t

Measures of Motivation ...Doing it Happily or Doing it Right

Interesting subject ...there is a difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation . Speed could go either way ...either you are bored and slow down or loving the job and hence slowed down . Certain motivations are towards end-goal while others are towards having a process focus . This article goes into depths on these issues with simple expression ... https://faculty.chicagobooth.edu/ayelet.fishbach/research/SPCOTilleryFishbach.pdf

Transforming Voltage and Current

I have been thinking of various modes of transforming electricity . At the higher end we have coil transformers like power & distribution type. One is step up while the latter is step down .They follow Faradays principle and Lenz's law .  You can also step up using a series of diodes for lower voltages .  Further inductance and capacitance can be used in buck and boost transformers . Also I understand for a DC to DC transformation you can first rectify the AC to DC , chop it and then transform using either the isolated or non-isolated type.  An op amp multiplies DC with the help of AC .  It would be nice to develop a set of rules to figure out which criteria would be the best for which use.  Also to know the finest transformer companies in India and the world and their latest developments .  I can think of Texas Instruments ,Infineon , Alsthom, Vishay and the like .  Invite you to contribute to this discussion

Ruminating on Life ...1

A weekend is a good time to ponder and ruminate on the basic philosophy of life. I do read up on the Bhagavad Gita and Vedanta Treatise every morning before breakfast. Few messages keep appealing to me ...this Life is a Dream and all of us are actors in a play. Hence there is no point getting too caught up with trivial matters. At the same desires are like poison and temptations the snake in them ,which when given rise to can kill us. This is similar to the snake with 5 heads in the Yamuna which Lord Krishna helped to get rid of. Another important element we need to fight is our Ego ...this is akin to the clothes of the Gopis left behind on the riverside which Lord Krishna withheld. The Gopis symbolize all devotees of Lord Krishna on earth and the clothes their ego.In order to reach God one needs to leave behind their ego . The other books I have been recently reading is Meditations by Marcus Aurelius , Epictetus' Manual of Life , the Tripura Rahasya suggested by my friend Ansh

13 Virtues by Benjamin Franklin

Here’s a list of the 13 virtues which Franklin committed himself to: https://daringtolivefully.com/ben-franklin-thirteen-virtues 1. “ TEMPERANCE . Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.” The first virtue selected by Franklin was not to overindulge in food or drink. Franklin writes that he selected temperance first because “it tends to procure that coolness and clearness of head which is so necessary where constant vigilance was to be kept up”. 2. “ SILENCE . Speak not but what may benefit others or yourself; avoid trifling conversation.” By adopting this virtue Franklin wished, first, to gain knowledge, which he noted one acquires by using the ears instead of the tongue. Second, he wanted to “break a habit I was getting into (of) prattling, punning, and joking, which only made me acceptable to trifling company”. 3. “ ORDER . Let all your things have their places; let each part of your business have its time.” By achieving order Franklin expected to be able to have
