Listening versus Doing --- 6 suggested practices for self improvement

The act of doing is far more important than the act of studying or listening . We are always more at ease just using our hearing or reading skills rather than applying our minds to create something.

I feel sad for the students and their parents who attend coaching classes mushrooming all over the country and staring at glaring computer screens with their teachers indulging in dramatics / histrionics and making a stage show of Physics & Mathematics with pre-designed problem solving and showing to the world that they have the panacea to get into the IITs & NITs. This is not only dragging the nation down but fast depleting national resources and wealth.

Why is Self-Improvement So Hard ...

Sachin Tendulkar became so after long hours of practise , often a handkerchief over his eyes , completely blindfolded and hitting the ball based on the sound without sighting the ball. As for myself I had put in hours of rigorous practice for the IIT & IIM examination. I had cracked both the top IIMs and remember seeing every problem and its solution as a football after hours of rigorous practice. Practice makes you develop an instinct and then everything looks second nature .

In the world of business I had put in three weeks of rigorous touring across India ,understanding markets and building relationships which ultimately resulted in these unique channels contributing more than desired levels in their share to the domestic retail business.

My basic request to all my readers here is to focus on application ---

1.Meditating ,

2.Writing literature or self compositions,

3.Practicing problem solving ,

4.Exercising at a bare minimum level ,

5.Developing simple and creative products ,

6.Taking time out to meet business people , interacting and exchanging ideas

I hope you find these thoughts stimulating and would motivate you to start reinventing yourself
