7 Unconventional Ways to Develop Patience

“Patience is the companion of wisdom.”  ~ Saint Augustine David Urcello provides some very practical tips for developing patience ..... These days, everything is instant. The instantaneous nature of so many aspects of modern society is empowering and also a great convenience. It’s so easy, in fact, that we take a lot of it for granted. Travel has never been faster. Communicating has never been easier. Watching “On Demand” entertainment and enjoying other forms of media is not only affordable, but requires as little as a click of the mouse or a television remote control. “Instant” Living and Mounting Impatience Unfortunately, the instantaneous aspect of so many facets of our lives has its drawbacks. When we text message someone and don’t receive a response back for several hours, we debate and ponder the “meaning” of the delay — as if any postponement is an insult, a display of disinterest, or a subtle message that requires a deep interpretation. “Instant” living gi...

A Disciplined Approach to Evaluating Ideas

"Make sure you ask the right questions at the right time." That's one memorable piece of advice from a leader at a global innovation powerhouse. Unfortunately, it is a piece of advice that is heeded too infrequently inside large companies. At many companies, the idea evaluation process revolves around detailed Excel spreadsheets, comprehensive PowerPoint documents, and an orchestrated sequence of pre-meetings leading up to a decision meeting. This kind of disciplined approach works very well when companies have knowledge that lets them be precise in their analysis, and executives have the relevant domain experience to make informed decisions. Role of Mandis in the Indian Market

Mandis are critical nodes in India's agricultural marketing and distribution system. As such, they are key elements of contention in vital debates regarding the future of Indian agriculture, the challenges of ensuring food security and managing food inflation, and to growing questions about the character and control of the nation's diversifying foodways. Established under different State Marketing Acts and managed by locally constituted Agricultural Produce Marketing Committees (APMCs),  mandis  are the most important sites for the regulation of the crucial “first transaction” between farmers and the initial buyers. Getting busy where you have peace ....

About Sean Writer, Reader, Leader, Trainer, Coach, Thinker, Hiker, Musician, Uncle, Writer, List-maker, Blogger http://muchclearer.wordpress.com/2011/12/02/getting-busy-where-you-have-peace/ On face value, most of us would probably think of peace as being related to either  spirituality or politics. The absence of war or the floaty meditations of a monk near a bonsai tree, wearing a lovely red robe (not sure about the yellow sash though). But after a chat with a friend of mine who runs his own business, I’m getting warmer to the idea of peace having a practical application in the real world of business and home-life – or at the very least outside of a community of small, , bald men in Tibet. 12 industry trends facing Fashion Firms

In 2011 there will be new challenges and new opportunities for apparel manufacturers, retailers and brands. Based on insights from this month's just-style management briefing, Just Style's Leonie Barrie looks at what the industry can expect in the year ahead. Photos courtesy clashofstyles.com and  louisvuittonsaleoutlets.com    Prices are absolutely going to be going up. It's a question of when. Retailers have been working hard to keep a lid on prices, but ultimately it's not possible to hold every price the same in a world where everything that goes into making that item is going up. The next 12 months will continue to be tumultuous with cotton prices remaining high. World cotton production may increase by a modest 5m to 6m bales, but all of that increase is likely to disappear into state reserves and not be available to mills. Supply chains need to get creative. The answer to higher costs is not to lower them but to counter them with better efficiencie...

Strategy Creation in Turbulent Times - AT & T

This is a real story about how a group of highly innovative and highly committed employees sought to rescue a failing telecom giant while they thought AT&T still had its chance. The signs of radical change in the telecom industry were in the air. The management did not seem to be able to come to terms with industry deregulation, the Internet, or the declining revenues from long-distance telephony. The group’s reaction to emerging strategy failure, described in detail in this article, was more than an effort to create new strategy: it was motivated by the need to find meaning beyond the often irrational corporate realities they were faced with. It was an effort to stay sane in strategically mad(dening) times. http://www.strategos.com/articles/ODD_StrategyCreation.PDF

Splenda - The Magic Low Calorie Sweetener

Splenda is the brand name for sucralose, a no-calorie sugar substitute. The body does not recognize sucralose as a carbohydrate, and McNeil Nutritionals, the makers of Splenda, note that clinical studies have shown sucralose does not increase insulin or blood glucose levels. Sucralose is stable at high temperatures, so is suitable for cooking and baking. Diet Coke Coke introduced Diet Coke with Splenda in 2005; regular Diet Coke still contains aspartame. The packaging differentiates Diet Coke with Splenda from regular Diet Coke. Splenda-containing Diet Coke has a yellow swirl, as opposed to regular Diet Coke's white swirl, and the Splenda logo appears on the label of Diet Coke with Splenda. Positioning Innovation

Microsoft’s  release  of its new Windows Phone 7 operating system is an interesting case study in positioning. They are clearly trying to reverse market share losses sustained over the past few years by establishing their new offering as the “always delightful” solution that helps users get tasks done quickly and get “back to life.” If these are unmet desired outcomes customers have when using their phone, then this is a solid foundation upon which to spend more than $100 million on a new advertising campaign to make that position known. http://posivation.wordpress.com/
