Life lessons

l   Work on developing your mental strength . Train your mind like you would your body. Work on focusing , thinking , imagining. This is the single best thing you can possibly do for your life.   l   Recite on mantras or prayers or motivational speeches. Anything that focuses your mind on something positive and hopeful.   l   Sometimes the best way to get over anything is just to work on forgetting about it. Not everything requires analysis. The best way to forget is to fill your life with new , better things. Things you may not have expected , things you didn’t know you didn’t know about , things you never imagined you’d like .   l   Work on redefining your sense of self by things that aren’t material or shallow. Instead of thinking you are someone who is attractive and successful , learn to think of yourself as someone who is resilient , hungry for new experiences , capable of deeply loving others and so on.   l   Learn deep breathing exerc...

5 Small Changes To Create High Performing Team

EMBRACE CLARITY : High-performance teams thrive on clarity and direction. Instead of an exhaustive list of expectations leaders must make it easy for the team and refine goals in simple language. How : This includes defining what success looks like, what specific outcomes are expected, and what metrics will be used to evaluate progress. START WITH CULTURE THEN COMPETENCE : Leaders need to create an environment that supports and encourages high performance. This means building a culture of trust, respect, and open communication. How: Team members need to feel valued, appreciated, and supported. Leaders should also provide opportunities for growth and development, such as training, mentoring, and coaching. PREFER COLLECTIVE COMPETENCE OVER INDIVIDUAL EXCELLENCE: Innovation is not done in isolation. High-performing teams work together to achieve common goals. Leaders should encour...

Aristotle's philosophies can be applied to run a super-successful business.

Aristotle's philosophies can be applied to run a super-successful business. His philosophy of virtue ethics, which emphasizes the development of good character and the pursuit of excellence, is particularly helpful in guiding ethical and effective leadership in personal and professional lives. Here are a few of his most influential and widely applied business principles. Pursuit of the common good: Aristotle believed that the purpose of human life is to achieve happiness and business should focus on it as well. How: This means that leaders should prioritize the well-being of the company as a whole, rather than just their own personal gain. Emphasis on virtues : The key to achieving the common good is to cultivate virtues such as honesty, courage, and justice. How: Leaders should embody these virtues to inspire trust and respect among their emp...

MENTAL MODEL 1-6

v> Mental Model #1: Address “Important”; Ignore “Urgent.” These are entirely separate things that we often fuse together. Important is what truly matters, even if the payoff or deadline is not so immediate. Urgent only refers to the speed of response that is desired. You can easily use an Eisenhower Matrix to clarify your priorities and ignore urgent tasks, unless they so happen to also be important. Mental Model #2: Visualize All the Dominoes. We are a shortsighted species. We think only one step ahead in terms of consequences, and then we typically only limit it to our own consequences. We need to engage in second-order thinking and visualize all the dominos that could be falling. Without this, it can’t be said that you are making a well-informed decision. Mental Model #3: Make Reversible Decisions. Most of them are; some of them aren’t. But we aren’t doing ourselves any favors when we assume that they are all irreversible, because it keeps us in indecision far too long. C...

Kolkata Book Fair

It was nice to visit the Kolkata book fair today . The traffic and ambience was pretty well managed . There was a surfeit of stalls though the major bias towards bengali books. It is a good forum for new poets/authors to make their presence felt. A lot of old books were being sold at discounted rates.  The government has to a large extent supported the cause of the book fair to make it a success.  Thanks to Kindle and various websites , I think English books have taken a beating as there are ways to access the same.   The other attractions were of course the handicrafts , food and beverages stalls .  Here's how the entrance looked like   https://www.youtube.com/shorts/d3PrATS3YjY A shop screaming to sell at half the price   https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yABhDzfH7QA

5 Stoic quotes to help you through difficult times

https://bigthink.com/the-learning-curve/5-stoic-quotes-to-help-you-through-difficult-times/?utm_source=pocket-newtab-intl-en   It can sometimes feel as though we live in uniquely difficult times. Zeno of Citium developed Stoicism to teach how to face such challenges. Later Stoic philosophers offered pertinent advice on how to adjust our perception around struggles and live a fulfilling life. It can sometimes feel as though we are living through uniquely difficult times. Wars, disease, economic upheavals, and political strife dominate news headlines . Traditions, once the terra firma of our lives, have split along cultural fault lines and are shifting widely. And the lessons imparted to us by our parents seem completely out of touch with the challenges we face daily. In short, there seems to be much cause for sadness, despondence, and being overwhelmed by life. We are not special in this regard, though. Our modern circumstances may be idiomatic — Plato worried ...
